Continuous Instream Monitoring

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

Turbidity in natural waters is recognized as an important indicator of its environmental health, and because it's a good surrogate for suspended sediment, monitoring turbidity has always been the "holy grail" for hydrologists. But because of earlier technology, "turbidity" has traditionally been a "bad word". The DTS-12 turbidity sensor is the first sensor to make turbidity monitoring practical, and no longer difficult, inaccurate, expensive, or labor-intensive. Turbidity is the cloudiness or murkiness of water caused by suspended organic or inorganic materials. Turbidity in natural waters is recognized as an important indicator of its environmental health.

Environmental testing & compliance screening for energy/environmental sector

by Oxford Instruments plc     based in Abingdon, UNITED KINGDOM

Compliance screening and testing is often carried out during the manufacturing phase of a product, and all the way through its disposal or recycling process. It ensures that products and materials meet specific standards or comply with international and local directives or regulations. These standards and regulations are introduced to ensure the quality and safety of a product, and to minimise or eliminate its negative impact on the environment and people. Examples of products or materials tested are: electrical and electronic equipment (for compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive), waste oils, soil (soil remediation depending on contents of toxic metals), children’s products (for compliance with Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008), etc.

Marine And Offshore Emissions Monitoring & Analysis

by Procal - Parker Hannifin Corp     based in Peterborough, UNITED KINGDOM

The need to demonstrate environmental responsibility is key for today’s marine and offshore industries. Fuels and exhaust gas emissions are subject to international, regional and national controls and Charterers, as well as the public, demand high standards of performance and reliability.

Microbial testing for metalworking fluids industry

by LuminUltra Technologies Ltd.     based in Fredericton, NEW BRUNSWICK (CANADA)

Microbial Contamination Results in Less than 5 minutes! Microbial growth in metalworking fluids presents a major problem. Storage tanks, recirculation lines, filters, and other equipment can become fouled through microbial proliferation and metabolic activity, which results in a myriad of problems. These problems include compromised product quality from microbially influenced corrosion (MIC), equipment and filter plugging, and health risks from bioaerosols. The best solution to these problems is early detection and treatment. Rapid detection is now possible through LuminUltra’s Quench-Gone Organic Modified (QGO-M) ATP test kit. This advanced test kit provides the user with an accurate measure of total microbial content in any metalworking fluid in less than 5 minutes.

Air cleaning system for the higher education areas

by Dynamic Air Quality Solutions     based in Princeton, NEW JERSEY (USA)

Dynamic Air Cleaners are an ideal indoor air quality solution for schools, colleges and universities. Without sacrificing budgets, higher education institutions can utilize these highly-versatile air cleaners to lower energy costs and establish greener, healthier learning environments for teachers and students. A report from The American Institute of Architects, The Redford Center, ICLEI USA – Local Governments for Sustainability and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) estimates inefficiency costs the average school $100,000 each year. The report also states 14 million students attend schools considered below standard or dangerous, with more than 15,000 schools having air deemed unsafe to breathe. Generating a return on investment in three to five years, Dynamic Air Cleaners remove dangerous airborne particles that other air cleaning systems miss, including odors, smoke, bacteria, allergens, fine dust, mold and pollen, without producing any harmful ozone.

Landfill leachate wastewater treatment

by ENCON Evaporators     based in Hooksett, NEW HAMPSHIRE (USA)

Landfill leachate is the runoff water that occurs from operational or closed landfills. This water flows at lower rates on dry days when naturally occurring moisture percolates out and at higher rates on rainy days when the leachate waters are combined with stormwater.

Capabilities of the Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS™)

by Sigma-Aldrich Co., LLC     based in Bellefonte, PENNSYLVANIA (USA)

The Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS) was developed at Supelco® by R&D Scientists, as a tool to assist in our comprehensive adsorbent research for thermal desorption tubes. The ATIS provides an efficient means of transferring calibration standards in either the gas or liquid phase onto the adsorbent packed tubes. The ATIS employs the technique of flash vaporization to vaporize the sample in a continuous flow of inert gas; the inert gas carries the sample to the tube. The sample pathway of the ATIS is constructed of glass and stainless steel. The calibration standard is injected by a syringe through a replaceable septum in the center of the injection glassware, which is heated. After enough time has elapsed, typically less than five minutes, the tube is removed from the ATIS and analyzed using the appropriate analytical technique for that adsorbent tube.

Analytical services for site assessment and remediation

The Effect of Temperature On Gold Ore Beneficiation Equipment

by Henan Bailing Machinery Co.,Ltd.     based in Zheng zhou, CHINA

Gold ore beneficiation equipment working environment temperature has great influence on beneficiation result. the temperature here is not only referring to the environment temperature, but also including mechanical friction temperature in operation. So, what’s the impact of temperature on gold ore beneficiation equipment? Normally under high temperature, the iron of gold ore react strongly, and also generates some complex intermediates, they are not stable and easy to be discomposed under heating. The reaction phenomena shows that the higher the temperature, the more black material in the final product under the hydrothermal conditions, thus, the black substance in the final product is the result of unstable intermediates in precursor decomposition when proceed hydrothermal reaction.

Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP)/Redox

by Myron L Company     based in Carlsbad, CALIFORNIA (USA)

Oxidation Reduction Potential or Redox is the activity or strength of oxidizers and reducers in relation to their concentration. Oxidizers accept electrons, reducers lose electrons. Examples of oxidizers are: chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, bromine, ozone, and chlorine dioxide. Examples of reducers are sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfate and hydrogen sulfide. Like acidity and alkalinity, the increase of one is at the expense of the other.
