Hazardous waste treatment solutions for oil and gas industry

There are a wide amount of applications for our VacuDry® process within the oil and gas industry. A large variety of wastes and by-products that are generated in the oil & gas production chain can be treated effectively and sustainably. In past decades, numerous thermal desorption processes have been implemented worldwide, using a variety of heating chamber designs to separate hydrocarbons from the mineral solids. Such standard TDUs work under atmospheric pressure which can lead to safety risks, high energy consumption, larger emissions and limited flexibility regarding altering feed materials. Due to its unique design, the complications outlined above are avoided throughout the VacuDry® process. When it comes to treating standard oily wastes, mercury-containing waste streams, NORM, and especially for the recovery of highly valuable drilling fluids from drill cuttings; our vacuum thermal desorption process (i.e. vacuum distillation) is economically unbeatable.

Monitoring of mercury in ambient air

Mercury, being widespread in environment, has toxic effect on a human organism even at a low concentration. Therefore, quantitativ e determination of mercury in vari ous environments is one of the most important environmental monitoring problems. The use of a mercury analyzer RA-915M/RA-915+/RA- 915Light with Zeeman background correction provides di rect real-time continuous determination of mercury in air from 0.5 ng/m 3 within the overall possible range of me rcury concentration in ambient air.

Determination of total mercury content in blood by cvaas

    INTRODUCTION

Blood is one of the most complex substances for determination of the Hg content. At the same time, blood is the most important diagnostic medium used for monitoring the effect of Hg vapor on the human organism. In almost all the countries, personnel of mercury-involving production facilities are regularly examined for the Hg content in blood, which should not exceed 20–50 µg/l, whereas in the case of a person unexposed to mercury vapor the blood normally contains 1–3 µg/l of Hg.

Determination of a total mercury content in urine

    INTRODUCTION

The main way of mercury removal from human body is it s urinary excretion, which is an important diagnostic medium for screening examination of population, risk group determination, and diagnostics and treatment of mercury poisoning.

Direct atomic absorption mercury determination in foodstuff and mixed feed

Direct atomic absorption mercury determination (without any pre-treatment procedures) in food is complicated by its organics matrix. That is the reason why almost all AAS methods of mercury determination in foodstuff include sample digestion by acids.

Determination of heavy metals in food

This analytical procedure is intended for measuring the content of the elements (cadmium, lead, arsenic, tin, chromium and mercury) in the samples of food products by atomic absorption spectrometry with electrothermal atomization using an “MGA-915M” Graphite Furnace AA Spectrometer.

The method is based on measuring resonance radiation absorption that occurs when the radiation passes through a layer of atomic vapor in the electrically heated graphite furnace of the “MGA-915M” AA spectrometer. The concentration of the elements is determined from the integrated analytical signal and is calculated using a preset calibration graph. The samples of food products are digested prior to analysis in accordance with standard methods.

Determination of mercury in mercury-containing wastes

    INTRODUCTION

Mercury is widely used in chemical industry, electronic s, electric engineering, instrument making, medicine, pesticide and explosives production, etc. A number of techniques and equipment are developed for reclaiming mercury-containing waste, such as soil, sludge, stillage botto ms, slime sediments, fluorescent lamps, mercury-containing batteries.

Determination of mercury in soil, bottom sediments, and geological materials

    INTRODUCTION

Analysis of soils and bottom sediments for mercury content is one of the most common analyses in the monitoring of environmental pollution. Background mercury concentrations in these objects are 10–100 μg/kg and in the polluted areas they exceed 10,000 μg/kg.

Direct AA Mercury determination in cosmetics

    INTRODUCTION

High mercury concentration can be found in such cosmetic products as skin lightening soaps and creams, makeup cleansing products, and mascara.

Mercury in cosmetics exists as inorganic and organic compounds. Inorganic mercury (e.g. ammoniated mercury) is used in skin lightening soaps and creams. Organic mercury compounds, such as thiomersal, are used as cosmetic preservatives in makeup cleansing products and mascara.

Direct atomic absorption mercury determination in tissues and biological samples

    INTRODUCTION

Mercury and its compounds are highly toxic substances fo r humans. It occurs naturally and exists in various forms: elemental (or metallic); inorganic (e.g. mercuric chloride); and organic (e.g., methyl- and ethylmercury). These forms all have different toxicities and implications for health. Among naturally occurring mercury compounds, methylme rcury exerts a significant influence (neurotoxic action) on human health.

Mercury monitoring for isotopic abundance by the ICP-MS

Studies of real-world ecosystems are very complex. Mercury species inter-conversion as well as mercury deposition and evasion are constantly occurring. One technique to help sort out the processes is to trace reactions using natural Hg isotopes. Either by enriching a system with a particular isotope or determination of isotopic ratios as a technique of source identification, isotopes are a powerful tool for investigation. The Tekran 2600 Total Mercury and Tekran 2700 Methyl Mercury systems are designed to couple to an ICP-MS for mercury quantification by CVAFS and isotopic abundance by the ICP-MS.

Mercury monitoring for measuring mercury content in hair

Measurement of mercury content in hair is a convenient technique to estimate dietary exposure without having to handle tissues or bodily fluids. As the mercury present in hair is comprised of different mercury species, full speciation of the compounds is needed for complete understanding. Environment Canada published a technique where treating a basic digestion with Cd2+ in the presence of cysteine allowed analysis of inorganic mercury and total mercury using a Tekran 2600 System. Methyl mercury was then calculated by difference. Tekran has over 18 application notes available for Tekran 2600 users.

Continuous emissions monitoring for mercury monitoring

Waste incinerators, cement plants and power plants need good and reliable measurements of total gaseous mercury. The measurement of total gaseous mercury is a challenge due to chemical reactions and contamination. The installed systems will often require a lot of maintanence still not giving reliable results.
