    AutoChem - Process Safety

Detect Thermal Hazards Early and Design Safety Into The Chemical Process. We must ask ourselves: How much heat will be generated under normal conditions? How will a change in condition, controlled or uncontrolled, change the rate of heat generation? Can our process equipment handle removing the heated generated? Answering these questions with speed and accuracy is necessary to ensure safe and efficient design and scale-up of synthesis reactions.

Mercury monitoring for aircraft research measurement

An examination of the literature shows that the Tekran 2537 is the choice for measurements of mercury aboard research aircraft. Several research groups in Europe and North America have used the Tekran 2537 on an aircraft platform for point source plume studies, free troposphere speciation characterization, vertical profiles, characterizing emission source regions and even the stratosphere (http://www.caribic-atmospheric.com/instrum/hg.html). Normally, the Tekran 2537 requires simple modifications for aircraft studies. Ask us to point you to past research, collaborating research groups and technical information if you are interested in mercury aircraft studies.

  • Primary air control for coal-fired power plants

Power Generation Combustion Air Measurements: The need for accurate, repeatable & reliable combustion air measurements in power generation plants is critical to efficient operation and safety throughout the entire facility and processes. Coal-fired power plant applications pose a number of challenges to obtaining these critical flow measurements includ¬ing large ducts, limited metering runs, poor velocity and temperature profiles, high vibration, temperatures up to 750° F and dirty `Fly Ash` laden air.

  • Water Quality in watersheds

Metro Vancouver serves an area of 282,000 hectares (approximately 1,088 square miles). The drinking water supplied to the 2.3 million residents of this growing community is sourced from three major reservoirs – Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam. These vast watersheds, located in the mountains north of Vancouver, gather billions of gallons of snowmelt and rainwater. From these reservoirs, the water is treated and filtered to remove turbidity and potentially harmful micro-organisms ensuring quality drinking water is available to homes throughout the Metro Vancouver district.

  • Electrical Based Tomography Systems for Slurry Flow

Slurry transportation is required in a diverse range of sectors, from food to minerals processing; and oil sands processing to nuclear waste management. As a process it requires significant levels of energy and the abrasive nature of materials used can lead to ongoing issues of pipeline erosion.

  • Secundary air flow measurement for power generation industry

Secondary Air Flow Overview: The need for accurate, repeatable & reliable combustion air measurements in power generation plants is critical to efficient operation and safety throughout the entire facility and processes. Accurate secondary air flow measurement to the burners is critical for maintaining the proper air to fuel ratio, resulting in more complete and stable combustion, better performance and lower emissions. Coal-fired power plant applications pose a number of challenges to obtaining these critical flow measurements including large ducts, limited metering runs, poor velocity and temperature profiles, vibration and high temperatures.

  • Dye Tracing

Monitoring the dilution and movement of a tracer introduced into the water column provides an excellent means of determining the path that may be followed by a discharge and the rate at which dilution is likely to take place. Fluorescent dyes such as Rhodamine, Fluorescein or Agma are the most frequently used tracers for such investigations. Chelsea Technologies has been providing dye tracing systems for over 30 years. Typical applications include sub-sea pipeline leak detection, pollution studies, natural water flow analysis (rivers, lakes, ocean currents, cave water flows, groundwater filtration etc), sewer and storm water drainage analysis. The Chelsea systems can be configured for a wide variety of tracers, are highly sensitive, robust, and deliver real-time data. They can be moored, profiled, towed or affixed to ROV / AUV platforms.

  • Example of GPR application on fresh water reservoir

GPR exploration of fresh water reservoirs allows user to examine in details the bottom. The important feature of GPR use that is to be mentioned - it can examine the structure of the bottom. I.e. there is possible to find underwater items located inside the bottom stratum. Also GPR can provide an information about the thickness of bottom silt or bottom ground, and its volume structure. The same exploration is very problematic if made by other means. In the summer 2012 VIY3-300 GPR was examined as sub-bottom profiler. The tests were made in Kyiv, Ukraine. GPR was placed in a plastic tub and moved across the surface of the fresh water lake. The survey window number of 166 ns corresponds to the depth of 2.7 meters. The signal reflected from the bottom is clearly visible on the profile. Compensation of the signal attenuation along increasing depth reached 60 dB. That indicates the water condition in an urban area.
