ACT Expo is the largest gathering of alternative fuel stakeholders in the U.S. this year

LONG BEACH, Calif., May 4, 2011 /PR Newswire/ -- The 2011 Alternative Clean Transportation 'ACT' Expo opens today at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif., convening the largest gathering of alternative fuel and clean vehicle stakeholders in the U.S. this year.

More than 1,100 attendees will gather at the three-day event, designed to showcase successes in advanced electric, hybrid, hydrogen, natural gas, propane and renewable fuel technologies. Against the backdrop of rising oil prices and gasoline and diesel fuel more than $4 per gallon, ACT Expo will examine the current challenges facing the clean transportation industry today and highlight opportunities for wider adoption of alternative fuels.

Beginning on Wednesday, May 4, ACT Expo will host more than 200 guests on tours to visit advanced alternative fueling sites across Southern California, including the grand-opening of Ryder Trucks' state-of-the-art fueling facility for liquefied natural gas trucks in Rancho Dominguez, Calif.

The 2011 ACT Expo conference sessions commence on Thursday, May 5 with a keynote address by Dr. Kathryn Clay, executive director of the Clean American Transportation Alliance. Nine different breakout sessions will explore the future of the alternative fuel industry, and provide strategies and highlight best practices for successful clean vehicle deployments.

A sold-out expo hall opens Thursday afternoon with 100,000 sq. ft. of space dedicated to providing attendees with tangible access to the advanced, clean vehicles of the future. Nearly 50 vehicles will be on display representing all alternative fuel types and fleet applications, including transit buses, Class-8 tractors, utility and refuse trucks, light-duty passenger vehicles and more.

Conference speakers and sessions will continue on Friday, May 6 with Mr. Martin Daum, president and chief executive officer of Daimler Trucks North America, the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in North America, providing the keynote address.

On Friday, May 6, ACT Expo will host a 'Ride and Drive' with 25 of the cleanest, advanced vehicles commercially available for free test-drives around the Long Beach Convention Center from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The 'Ride and Drive' is free and open to the public.
