Boston in June, and the Harvard campus, with its ivy covered walls and colonial atmosphere is a great place to visit. The weather was both beautiful, on Thursday, and wet on Friday. But the high quality of the event was consistent making RamanFest a resounding success.!
The RamanFest Conference, held on Thursday, June 12th through Friday, June 13th, was co-sponsored by Harvard University. There were over 120 scientists, researchers, students, professors, CEOs etc., in attendance, including 16 renowned speakers from academia and industry.
While most attendees were from the U.S., we had representative from as far away as far away as Canada, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, India, China and Japan
Our co-hosts were Professor Sunney Xie and Dr. Dan Fu from Harvard University. The talks took place in the Pfizer lecture hall, and the posters were all set up along the hallway in front of Professor Xie’s labs. Each day started at 8:15 with a continental breakfast, and continued till after 4PM.
The talks spanned a diverse range of topics. They were general, like ‘Raman Spectroscopy Developments and Applications - Past, Present and Future,’ and ‘Industrial Problem Solving with Raman Spectroscopy,’ and very detailed, like Supremacy and Variety of Vibrational Spectroscopy for Probing Amyloid Fibrils: from UV Raman to VCD and TERS,’ and ‘Pharmaceutical Polymorph Discrimination using Low-Wavenumber Raman Spectroscopy.’ For a complete list of talks, you can reference the abstract that we will be posting shortly.
All meals were provided, including a delicious lunch outside on Thursday, and a BBQ on Friday, which was held inside due to weather.
One highlight included a gala dinner on Thursday evening, with Professor Mildred Dresselhaus, famed ‘Queen of Carbon Science’ as our guest speaker. As a female scientist in a male-dominated field, in the late 1940’s, her talk, ‘My Forty-Year Adventure with Raman Spectroscopy and the Future,’ was as inspiring, as it was enjoyable. We also offered a tour of Sunney Xie’s laboratory facilities on Friday after the conference ended.
We received many congratulations and thanks for the great program and organization.
