Fargo, ND, USA, 18 August 2014 -- Registration ends 31 August for the Special Symposium on Resettlement & Livelihoods organized by the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA). The event will be held in Kruger National Park, South Africa, on 21-22 October 2014. Due to space limitations at the venue, registrations cannot be accepted after 31 August. To register, visit the event’s home page and click the “Register” button.
The symposium – aimed at practitioners from industry, government, civil society and consultancy – is taking place as, across the world, land access for public and private sector projects often causes significant physical and economic displacement of communities. Resettlement is typically fraught with challenges, risks and controversy. Poorly undertaken resettlement can result in a number of impoverishment risks, like landlessness, marginalisation, food insecurity and social disarticulation.
The symposium aims to improve understanding of land access and resettlement issues, share lessons learned, and discuss opportunities to improve performance.
The final agenda is available online. For more information, please contact Bridget John, firstname.lastname@example.org.
