Traditionally, the journey to Makkah was mainly an overland journey using camels as a means of transport. Observance of this custom, in the modern days, has undertaken a few adjustments to accommodate the thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world.

As we all know, that there is no airport in the Holy city of Makkah and most of the pilgrims who travel from far countries arrive Jeddah and from there they move to Makah by road.

In November 2017 the Haramain high-speed trains began to service at 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph), and travelling between Jeddah and Makkah in less than half an hour.

But travelling by road is strongly observed with an increase of taxies, coaches, Uber and cars  travelling from the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to the holy city.

At present the journey  takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes, and it is not wrong to say such long route might be exhausting for the travelers who have already traveled miles from their homeland.

The good news is that Saudi Arabian authorities have already started to work on a new  highway that will cut the travel time between the cities of Jeddah and Makkah to 35 minutes. This new highway is indeed a good news for all the pilgrims and it will serve all the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrims, as well as facilitate commute for the residents.
