A matter of policy
IMSM has recently added the international standard OHSAS 18001, covering health & safety, to its portfolio. The fast track, fixed fee solution, based on the successful Plan- Do-Check-Act model used for ISO9001, is specially tailored for small and medium sized businesses. The improvements that these systems make affect every aspect - raising standards, improving effectiveness, reducing risk of legislation, as well as meeting supply chain requirements.
The health and safety of today’s workforce is a vital part of every business’s strategy. With skill shortages, insurance costs, increase in prosecutions, and the need to demonstrate corporate social responsibility (CSR), it is essential to have a declared policy and set of standards.
A good Health & Safety policy will be designed to support the corporate objectives, and be fully supported at all levels. This will include setting a range of standards, based on careful risk assessment, and implementing management systems to effectively maintain those standards and secure continuous improvement.
If a business already has ISO9001:2000 in place, achieving OHSAS 18001 becomes much simpler. IMSM only uses qualified and experienced assessors who have industry specific experience, saving time and integrating existing systems.
