Project managers, regulators and site owners all face similar challenges: What technologies do I need to first define the hazards associated with my site and second how can I best remediate those hazards? Adventus, ARS, and Columbia are all long-standing and well recognized service providers having, in their respective ways, dealt effectively and efficiently with these challenges on thousands of sites. In this Site Management Strategies series of presentations we will emphasize a modern, integrated approach to contaminated site assessment and remediation with a constant focus on advanced techniques for accelerated site closure.
The Adventus Group provides a growing portfolio of leading environmental remediation technologies, including patented products, and is best known for leadership in the area of in situ chemical reduction (ISCR) with the EHC family of products. Adventus pioneered ISCR in the early 90's to effectively and economically treat soil and groundwater contaminated with a wide variety of organic constituents and/or metals amenable to biological and chemical reduction. Other Adventus products are also used to address problems that require oxidation processes and contaminant flux management. We support site owners, consultants, regulators, and others by providing unbiased design, and selection of the most cost-effective remediation strategies. Adventus has a world-wide presence and a strong record of sharing its achievements across more than 500 technical abstracts and publications.
Stephen Koenigsberg is Vice President of The Adventus Group. Prior to joining Adventus, he was a Principal at ENVIRON, a Partner at WSP, and a Founder and V.P. of R&D at Regenesis. Steve has worked as a project team member on numerous in-situ and on-site treatment protocols and has published over 150 technical articles focusing on bioremediation and environmental biotechnology. Steve received his M.S/Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1979 and is an Adjunct Professor at The California State University at Fullerton where he also serves as Chairman of the Dean's Advisory Council. Steve recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The AEHS Foundation in 2010.
ARS Technologies has over 20 years of fracturing / injection and advanced drilling experience, and is the world leader in environmental injection and soil fracturing. With offices in New Jersey, California and Illinois, ARS services both the US, Canada and international environmental markets. ARS' in-situ capabilities including pneumatic fracturing, Hybrid Fracturing (pneumatic and hydraulic), Ferox ZVI emplacement, and liquid atomized injection of chemical oxidants and biological substrates. ARS has two other divisions, ARS' Advanced Drilling and Hepure Technologies which provide and variety of innovative products and services to the environmental marketplace.
Robert Kelley is Vice President of Technology Development for ARS. Bob has over 25 years of experience with in-situ remediation technologies and is recognized world-wide for his contributions to the field having worked on thousands of designs and successful projects using chemical oxidation/reduction; and biological remediation technologies. Bob developed a comprehensive perspective on contaminated site remediation as an environmental researcher, consultant and service provider and has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, over 60 technical reports and papers, and has presented over 1,000 technical papers and seminars. Bob received his B.S. degree in Microbiology from Virginia Tech and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Michigan State University. He is a Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and has held industry positions with both Carus Chemical and Regenesis.
COLUMBIA Technologies is an industry leader in high resolution vertical profiling to optimize soil pollution and groundwater remediation through data collection and evaluation. In addition, their real-time data services, SmartData Solutions integrates soil stratigraphy and groundwater contamination data into easy to interpret decision making data. This Platform-as-a-Service enables site owners and consulting firms alike to implement the practical and highly cost-effective EPA Triad approach for assessment, cleanup, and monitoring of environmentally contaminated real estate. Founded in 1999, COLUMBIA has performed over 750 high resolution site characterizations throughout North America and Hawaii for over 300 customers including 20 of the top 40 environmental design firms, Fortune 500 companies, and state and federal agencies.
John Sohl, CEO and co-founder of COLUMBIA Technologies utilizes his 35 years of experience in senior technical project management and business development to direct the innovative business solutions fusing technology and geochemistry in the growing field of environmental services. John holds a Bachelors of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy on nuclear submarines after graduating in 1972. In 1987 John received an MBA from Chaminade University in Honolulu. Upon leaving the service in 1992, John served in senior management positions with several small environmental companies until co-founding COLUMBIA Technologies in 1999 with the goal of advancing state-of-the-art process in data acquisition and delivery for underground site assessments.
