- Abengoa has been promoting sustainable mobility through various initiatives since 2009.
- Greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 243.5 tons of C02 eq/year.
Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has consolidated the role of the Sustainable Mobility Office at its Campus Palmas Altas headquarters in Seville.
Abengoa has implemented a series of measures since 2009 to promote the use of sustainable transport, such as launching a free shuttle bus service available to all employees.
Thanks to these actions, Abengoa has not only contributed to improving employees’ journeys to the work center but has also made this travel more environmentally friendly.
According to 2013 data, it is estimated that the equivalent of 377 vehicles/year would have been taken out of circulation on Seville’s streets thanks to actions carried out by the Sustainable Mobility Office, reducing gas emissions by 243.5 tons of CO2 eq/year. This represents a financial saving in fuel consumption by employees of approximately €150,268/year, equivalent to a reduction in fuel consumption of 103,633 liters/year.
All of this has been achieved by implementing a diverse range of measures such as the carpooling network, in which employees can identify other people with which to share a vehicle on their journeys. Sustainable transport promotions have also been launched and the shuttle bus service has been optimized, through which Abengoa offers its employees free daily transport to and from the work center.
Actions have also been taken to encourage the use of the walkway that connects the Los Bermejales district with Campus Palmas Altas, which was designed and constructed by Abengoa in 2012 to be subsequently gifted to the municipality. The aim is to make employees’ journeys from the city to the work center more convenient, safe and sustainable.
Other measures include the creation of a bicycle repair workshop and a changing room for cyclists, as well as a bicycle loan system that is planned for the future.
In the long term, the Sustainable Mobility Office aims to reduce the CO2 emissions generated by transport to the work center by 50 % by 2020, compared to 2010 levels.
