ACD/Labs Releases Superior New Version of ChemSketch Freeware

San Diego, CA (March 14, 2005) – Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) is pleased to announce that their freeware chemical drawing package, ACD/ChemSketch, has been updated to match the majority of capabilities present in the commercial version 8.0. This new version, available for academic and personal use only, delivers extended capabilities for the chemical structure representation of both inorganics and polymers as well as the preceding version's renowned support of organic structures.

Dr. Antony Williams, Vice President and Chief Science Officer at ACD/Labs, states, “ACD/ChemSketch is a core component of all of our offerings and is the culmination of ten years of development, ongoing discussions with chemists from all walks of science, and our passion to produce the best chemical structure drawing package in the world. Our delivery of a freeware version of ACD/ChemSketch to chemists around the world has created a community of users who now share academic lesson plans, chemical structures, and reactions via web pages and other forms of electronic communication. It is our pleasure to enable chemists around the world to indulge in collaborative science in this way.”

ACD/Labs has long been committed to helping the academic community provide future scientists with access to software tools they will ultimately use in their careers. Over 500 of the leading chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the world use commercial versions of ACD/Labs' software, and with this, ACD/ChemSketch has become the accepted interface into the industry's best NMR and molecular property predictions, nomenclature, and analytical data management software. This is the motivation behind ACD/Labs' donation of freeware ChemSketch to the scientific community, and the driving force behind the recent decision to expand the freeware capabilities to version 8.0.

Dr. Williams furthers, “The latest release of our freeware ACD/ChemSketch provides added support for polymer, organometallic, and inorganic chemists. We have also added greater flexibility for our present users and addressed literally hundreds of small requests made by the community. This latest release will surely catalyze more requests for enhancements and enable us to garner ideas for inclusion in the program. What better way to help move towards an optimized structure drawing program addressing the needs of all?”

ACD/ChemSketch enables users to draw molecules, reactions, and schematic diagrams, calculate physical properties, generate accurate IUPAC names for chemical structures, and design professional reports and presentations. ACD/ChemSketch is renowned for its superior support of organic chemistry, and researchers, publishers, and teachers everywhere have become devoted to the tool that helps them seamlessly turn their chemistry content into publication-quality documents, reports, and presentations, thereby accelerating their reporting tasks and the submission of scientific papers.

To date, over 150 academic institutions have chosen ACD/ChemSketch as their standard chemical drawing package, and over 410,000 chemists in every country of the world have downloaded the freeware version. The latest version 8.0 freeware can be downloaded at .

ACD/Labs also offers free campus-wide installations of the latest version of ACD/ChemSketch to academic institutions. Contact for further details.
