CERCare partners in the 'Process analysis, observations and modelling - Integrated solutions for cleaner air for Delhi' (PROMOTE) project, collaborating with six UK universities and five Indian research institutes. This project will investigate the interactions between meteorological processes such as winter fog events and poor air quality, as well as the relative importance of local and regional pollutant emissions and possible mitigation approaches. It is part of the widerAtmospheric Pollution and Human Health in an Indian Megacityprogramme, jointly funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the Medical Research Council (MRC), the Newton-Bhabha Fund, the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the Ministry of Science and Technology Department of Biotechnology.
ADMS-Urbanwill be used to model street-scale air quality in Delhi during the PROMOTE project. It will be coupled to the regionalWRF-ChemandCMAQmodels using theADMS-Urban Regional Model Link(RML) system in order to investigate the interactions of regional and local effects. Preliminary un-coupled ADMS-Urban modelling results were presented at the project science meeting on 24thApril 2018. The projectbrochuregives more information about the full aims of the project and activities of other project partners.
Smoke from countless wildfires in Canada have blanketed communities from New York City to Charlotte with unhealthy air this summer. During one day alone, over 125 million people in the region were under an air quality alert and the air quality in New York City registered as the worst in the world.
A New York Air Quality Health Advisory about the wildfire smoke warned:
Exposure can cause short-term health effects such as irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and shortness of...
Today, Safire Technology Group, Inc. (Safire Group), a venture-backed company developing and manufacturing Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery safety technology, announced its expansion to Knoxville, Tennessee, with the opening of a new laboratory at the University of Tennessee Spark Innovation Center. The laboratory will support the continued growth of the company, housing Safire Group’s research and development division and allowing the company to continue innovating its patented SAFe Impact Resistant Electrolyte...
Alongside core activities of developing air quality modelling software and providing environmental consultancy services, CERC take an active role in UK and international scientific research activities. 2022 was a busy year for CERC`s research team, with ten published co-author journal articles.
New software development and evaluation was covered in two papers. The improved elevated roads modelling implemented in ADMS-Urban and ADMS-Roads, commissioned by Highways England (now National Highways), was discussed...
Three of CERC`s projects are featured in a recent report from the Chief Medical Officer for England. The 2022 annual report focusses on air pollution, discussing the effects of air pollution on health, reporting progress made in improving air quality over recent decades, and highlighting possibilities for achievable solutions for continuing improvement. It includes discussion of both outdoor and indoor air pollution and gives suggestions for future research. The outdoor air pollution modelling projects involving...
ION Science is delighted to announce it has been nominated for three categories: ‘Sustainability Award’, ‘Best Marketing Campaign’, and ‘Gas Detection Product of the year’ at the Instrumentation Excellence Awards. This welcome recognition of ION Science’s efforts to be a sustainable and environmentally friendly business, excellence in marketing strategy, and of its leading personal hydrogen sulfide gas detector, the ARA H2S, comes as another boost after a successful 2022...
