Akzo Nobel centralizes sustainability reporting with TechniData EPM / Successful implementation in four months
Group-wide reporting improves data quality and process efficiency +++ Key performance indicators for occupational health and safety, environment and energy management
Markdorf, November 22, 2006. In collaboration with TechniData, Akzo Nobel has implemented sustainability reporting based on key performance indicators (KPIs). In November, the centralized system started generating fourteen KPIs from occupational health and safety, environment and energy management sectors. The group-wide reporting system is based on the standard software TechniData EPM and replaces a number of stand-alone systems.
Based on the integration platform SAP NetWeaver, TechniData EPM simplifies and automates the reporting process. In future, Akzo Nobel will be able to represent changing requirements in a flexible way creating maximum transparency. New KPIs and changes in the reporting and company structure can be implemented immediately. Additionally, TechniData EPM provides a series of validation functions to improve the data quality.
The new reporting system meets the demand of numerous rating agencies – that responsibilities in data recording be kept separate for verification. A flexible workflow ensures that any data entered is checked by authorized persons before being forwarded for consolidation and interpretation. The separation of the entry and approval processes is also reflected in the procedure for changing data that is already in the system.
Implementation in four months
After the project was given the go-ahead in July 2006, live production of two business units followed four months later. Go-live for the other business units is planned for December 2006. As no customer-specific enhancements were required, Akzo Nobel uses the standard system TechniData EPM. TechniData implemented the successful project together with its consulting partner Cap Gemini.
At present, the reporting system determines fourteen key performance indicators. In this process, TechniData EPM compiles business data from fourteen business units in a central database. The KPIs range from incident analysis, through energy consumption to CO2 emissions.
