Emergency responders recently partnered with Alexander Chemical Corporation, located in Kingsbury, IN for a crisis training event involving four agencies and La Porte Hospital.

A simulated active shooter scenario staged at Alexander’s manufacturing facility provided a training opportunity for the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, Hazardous Material team, the Kingsbury Fire Department, hospital personnel, and Alexander’s onsite Emergency Response Team.

“This type of drill is so important for the community, and for Alexander,” said Site Manager, Bob Smith. “Everyone involved gained valuable experience, and each drill allows us to work with local responders, identifying ways to continuously improve our crisis prevention and response. We are grateful for the working relationship we have with the participating agencies.”

Among the groups suiting up for practice was Alexander’s Emergency Response Team, who staged a response to a material release linked to the active shooter. The team consists of employees trained to assist in the event of a chlorine emergency, regardless of its origin.

“We have employees who are prepared to work with the La Porte County Hazmat Team, whether an emergency involves Alexander or not. Any chance we have to let our people practice with the county team helps us prepare to fulfill that commitment,” said Smith.

Alexander has also participated in past county-wide emergency drills.
