AMEC’s UK environmental business has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of James Anderson as head of strategic and sustainability services. He joins AMEC from Montgomery Watson, where he was strategic advisory and sustainability director.
James, 49, has over 25 years experience in environmental consulting, business management and developing climate change legislation. Based at AMEC’s Weybridge office in Surrey, he will be responsible for developing business across areas such as sustainable planning, green procurement and corporate governance, through to tackling global climate change issues for major corporations and strategic asset management.
Recent high profile commissions have seen James work on the assessment of national policy statements covering sustainability and environmental issues for the development of new nuclear in the UK and assist with development of the UK Climate Change Bill and the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
James is also an advisor to separate government departments(1), DEFRA, DECC and BIS, on CRC legislation and associated carbon trading and auctioning processes. “It is an exciting time to be growing strategic and sustainability services in an organisation like AMEC,” explains James. “Particularly against a backdrop of the unprecedented challenge facing this country - and the international community - to meet hugely demanding carbon reduction and efficiency targets across power generation, transportation, industry, commerce and the residential sector.
“Business sustainability is really about protection of assets and compliance with legislation; turning risks into opportunities whilst securing future growth and operating with maximum efficiency and transparency - and these issues are already at the heart of AMEC’s values and guiding principles.”
