AMETEK Land to present smart aluminium temperature sensors for Industry 4.0 at Future Aluminium Forum 2018
Physics Section Manager Dr. Fiona Turner will present at the Future Aluminium Forum 4.0, May 8-9, in Milan.
Dr Turner’s presentation, entitled Smart Aluminium Temperature Sensors for Industry 4.0 considers how AMETEK Land’s innovative SPOT AL EQS pyrometer, coupled with a smart actuator for automatic alignment, provides accurate temperature measurement in most current extrusion, quench and strip applications. Dr Turner will discuss how AMETEK Land is focusing its development efforts on facilitating Industry 4.0 levels of data capture, interpretation and management.
“With Modbus TCP communication and 10ms response time, the SPOT AL EQS can capture huge amounts of data. While useful in itself for quality purposes, it is the intelligent interpretation of data from multiple instruments, with application appropriate logging of derived parameters, that I am very pleased to present during this important aluminium industry forum,” comments Dr Turner.
The presentation covers how an extrusion press can be fine-tuned to produce a perfect “top hat” temperature profile at press exit, using feedback from the press exit and billet temperatures, and how an intelligent actuator can enable autonomous operation of the temperature monitoring and control system. That includes scans triggered automatically on billet arrival, extrusion die change, or if the measured temperature falls below the expected level to detect a wandering profile.
In addition, Dr Turner will look at how different algorithms for triggering of a scan and identification of hot spots are presented. Site trial data will be offered throughout the presentation.
AMETEK Land will display the SPOT AL EQS pyrometer with actuator at the Future Aluminium Forum on Stand 1 and demonstrate how it provides even greater accuracy in temperature measurement for aluminium processing applications.
