Following a recent audit conducted for the Operator Self Monitoring (OSM) procedures by the accreditation body United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), Severn Trent Services are pleased to announce that we have retained our UKAS 17025:2005 and MCERTS accreditation for our sampling team. The UKAS audit was the third phase of a four-year rolling cycle and continues to demonstrate the company’s commitment to the field services division of our Analytical Services business.
As of 2009, the OSM analysis was a regulated requirement by the Environment Agency or Scottish Environmental Protection Agency as a tool to control and monitor the potential pollution implications on waste water being discharged from treatment plants. The OSM programme transfers the responsibility for sampling, testing and disclosing discharge water quality to operators from the regulators.
Chris Caird (Quality Director) commented: “Our primary goal at Severn Trent Services is to deliver testing services of high quality and reliability which meet our customer requirements. The positive feedback we received from this UKAS independent audit gives us confidence that we are achieving our goal”.
As part of the regulated OSM contract over 700 water samples are processed per month. The samples are taken by a team of field based samplers who conduct onsite analysis and forward the samples for routine testing at our Coventry laboratory, with testing varying from Anionic Detergents and Ammonia to a wide range of metals.
