World Business Council for Sustainable Development

Andre Marcu joins WBCSD

We are pleased to announce that Andrei Marcu, president of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), will join the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The precise date of the move has not been finalized yet due to the open situation for his succession at IETA.

Mr. Marcu will assume the role of Senior Managing Director of the Council's Energy & Climate Focus area, coordinating the work of the WBCSD related to this key issue. Following its last meeting on July 16, IETA's board announced that Mr. Marcu will continue in his current capacity and with the same responsibilities during the transition period until the search for a new president is completed.

Mr. Marcu joined IETA in September 2000 and he has been the key driver of IETA's very successful development. Before joining IETA, Mr. Marcu spent two years with UNDP and 17 years with Ontario Hydro. His extensive experience with energy and climate change issues, as well as his knowledge of the key players internationally, will give him a very strong foundation for his new role at the WBCSD.

Mr. Marcu holds a Bachelor in Engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Stefanie Held, who has been WBCSD's Managing Director of Energy & Climate since June 2006 as a secondee from our member company Holcim, will be returning to her company later on this year.

We want to thank Ms. Held for her great contribution to the success of the WBCSD as the leading business driver on Energy & Climate. We are convinced we will benefit from her dedication to the goal of a sustainable world in her new capacity at Holcim.
