Aquatech India: extra floor space available - new opportunities in emerging market
Aquatech India, the only international water technology show in India, premiers from February 3 – 5 next year. Due to the tremendous interest from worldwide companies, the first floor is sold out. Aquatech India 2010 now expands with a second floor to give every exhibitor the chance to benefit from the opportunities the emerging market of India brings. The Aquatech India conference will be held parallel to the exhibition, focusing on Innovative Technologies for Water Sustainability. The Chairman’s address will be given by Dr. P.S. Rana, Former Chairman of HUDCO India and the honorable U.N. Panjiar, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources in India has been invited to give the keynote address.
Generally, India is making good progress in developing and investing in water supply and sanitation infrastructure. Still, according to the World Bank, about 94% of India’s urban population has usually less than four hours a day access to water supply. Only some 35% of the cities have seven days of water supply in a week. Furthermore, the water supply systems have technical deficiencies resulting in inefficient energy use and high operation costs, according to the World Bank report (2009).
Another report, of the Water Resources Group, states that the growing scarcity of water in the future will be an even bigger problem. According to the report, water demand in India will grow to almost 1,5 trillion m3 by 2030. With India’s current water supply of 740 billion m3, the country’s river basins will face a severe deficit unless action is taken. With this, the market in India definitely provides expanding opportunities for the water sector.
