ARCADIS Assists Storm Affected Municipalities in Debris Removal
- New York and New Jersey ask ARCADIS to manage, expedite and assure debris removal in storm affected coastal communities
- More than 1,600 pieces of equipment certified in HaulPass® for debris removal
- 41,000 tons of debris, and 357,000 cubic yards of debris collected in NY/NJ to date
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, has deployed its debris management personnel and state-of-the-art technology, HaulPass, to 14 communities in New York and New Jersey where Sandy, one of the worst storms to hit the U.S., wreaked havoc. Additionally, the firm has hired more than 120 local temporary workers to help oversee the cleanup effort that has collected 41,000 tons and 357,000 cubic yards of debris so far.

ARCADIS has been contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state and local governments to help manage the massive task of removing an estimated 12 million cubic yards of debris and to carefully track every truckload to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and maintain electronic records to speed recovery efforts along the eastern seaboard. The company uses an automated debris management system, HaulPass, to track debris cleanup and provide real-time debris removal information to local recovery managers. HaulPass has been deployed in the aftermath of other natural disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Ike, and the tornados in Alabama and Joplin, Mo., streamlining the cleanup process.
“With virtually the entire coast of New Jersey devastated, communities are faced with serious logistical bottlenecks removing the storm debris. Our HaulPass system helps facilitate a faster turnaround for debris removal and disposal,” said Sam Rosania, of ARCADIS US. “That’s critical in boosting public morale and helping residents return to some state of normalcy more quickly.”
In addition to debris removal and management, ARCADIS is applying its disaster recovery expertise to provide moisture mapping, mold investigation and asbestos surveys for financial services, telecommunications, transportation and storage clients with large operations in affected areas.
