Arch Coal Selects Enviance to Measure, Manage and Report Environmental Data and Performance
CH2M Hill to Implement Enviance’s Environmental Solution at Arch Coal For Industry Permitting and Compliance Needs
CARLSBAD, Calif. - Enviance, Inc., a global provider of environmental solutions that measure, manage, report and reduce environmental and regulatory risks, announced today that Arch Coal, Inc. has selected Enviance as its enterprise solution to measure and report compliance data for water discharge management. Arch Coal is the second largest U.S. coal producer, supplying cleaner-burning, low-sulfur coal to fuel approximately eight percent of the nation’s electricity. Adopting the Enviance technology will allow Arch to enhance its environmental analysis and management, which includes compliance with governmental permits issued under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) and the U.S. Clean Water Act NPDES programs.
Implementation of the Enviance system will be conducted by CH2M Hill, a global leader in full-service engineering, consulting, construction and operations.
“Given the highly specific environmental requirements imposed on the coal mining industry, we needed a system that could integrate, centralize and measure complex coal-based compliance mandates,” said David Hartley, vice president and chief operating officer of Arch Coal, Inc. “Enviance’s cloud-based management system will deploy rapidly and scale within our infrastructure as we look to further enhance our environmental management capabilities. This scalable system represents another key element in our ongoing effort to fully standardize environmental reporting and compliance.”
Arch Coal selected Enviance because of the company’s proven track record in supporting specific coal mining environmental requirements within the industry. Based in St. Louis, Arch Coal has leading positions in all three major low-sulfur coal basins, with operations in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia. The company’s core business is providing U.S. power generators with coal for electric generation. The company also ships coal to domestic and international steel manufacturers as well as international power producers.
“We are pleased to partner with Enviance to deploy its enterprise solution as the cloud technology platform to complement CH2M Hill’s global, best practice implementation services,” said Wade Carter, business development leader for EHS Information Management Services at CH2M Hill.
“Arch Coal is continually recognized for its investment in innovation and environmental safety, being honored with numerous industry accolades,” said Lawrence Goldenhersh, president and CEO of Enviance. “Arch Coal is once again at the forefront with addressing environmental safety and compliance requirements. Enviance’s environmental solution will allow Arch Coal to centralize and manage its complex compliance and permitting requirements into one manageable system, providing transparent data to help further mitigate environmental risks.”
