atg UV Technology Among The Stars
atg UV Technology has been announced as a finalist for Utility Week’s prestigious Constellation Awards for collaborative work with a supplier. As a result of the relationship between South Staffs Water and two of its suppliers – M&E contractor Integrated Water Services (IWS) and UV technology supplier atg UV – a project to provide improved disinfection at South Staffs Water’s Seedy Mill WTW (Water Treatment Works) delivered on all its targets by the due date in a fraction of the time usually taken for this type of project. The collaboration sets a new benchmark for co-operation between a utility company and its suppliers.
South Staffs Water undertook a project to identify, design and install a technical solution to improve the disinfection process at Seedy Mill, the company’s second largest surface water treatment works. Serving a population of 200,000, it is critical to the region’s water supply. In order to comply with South Staffs Water regulatory requirements, the project needed to be completed by the end of May 2016. To achieve this fast track result, South Staffs Water decided to install UV units upstream of the existing chlorination plant. For the required duty, atg UV supplied four UVLW-30800-30 reactors each fitted with thirty 800W ultra-high output low pressure Amalgam UV lamps.
To meet the deadline the three partners had to develop a close working relationship so that they could contribute to all aspects of the project development. The collaborative framework sets a new benchmark for co-operation between a utility company and its suppliers. The team approach focussed on a short deadline, allowed flexibility under pressure and enabled the design to change throughout the project to meet technical challenges. Seedy Mill remained operational throughout as a result of the partners’ support and flexibility, and the project delivered on all its targets with water being disinfected by the due date. www.utilityweekstars.co.uk
