Bramhall, UK: April 2 2012 --

Resource recovery specialist Axion Consulting has launched a dedicated staff training package for Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) aimed at helping operators to improve productivity and profitability.

Part of Axion’s extensive suite of MRF services, the MRF Operator Training Service (MOT) focusses on training employees in safe and effective materials recovery, including how to recognise valuable waste products.

“Properly-trained pickers are a vital, yet often overlooked, element of a MRF’s operations,” comments Roger Hudspith, Axion’s recycling training specialist. “An informed and well-trained workforce is the key to success in the waste industry. Knowing the value of products, such as metals, plastics, paper, textiles and electronic waste is crucial to their efficient recovery and, in turn, maximising returns on investment.”

Axion’s MOT offers a complete range of hands-on WAMITAB-certified (Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board) training and assessments for MRF operators at all levels, including NVQ Level 2 in Sustainable Waste Management. Programmes range from risk assessments, new starter packs and site waste operational and duty of care training to recycling operative tuition.

Full health and safety audits can also be provided to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HWSA) 1974 and demonstrate evidence of the required levels of on-site technical competence.

Axion’s Business Development Manager Maxine Brown says demand is rising for their MOT service, adding: “MRF operators are acknowledging that their pickers are key people and correctly sorting waste to extract maximum value is imperative. With more complex waste streams coming through, MRFs are being forced to up their game. Our cost-effective and independent service can help them to meet these new challenges and make the most of all their resources.”

Axion Consulting is part of the Axion Group that develops and operates innovative resource recovery and processing solutions for recycling waste materials.

The Group works with a wide range of clients, from Government agencies and local authorities to companies in diverse commercial sectors, on the practical development of new processing and collection methods to recover value from waste resources.
