B&W Tek Community Engagement in 2015
B&W Tek, Inc., an advanced instrumentation company that delivers lab quality Raman, LIBS and NIR spectroscopy solutions through user-friendly mobile platforms, is proud to provide support to respectable organizations year-round with generous donations and volunteer work, both locally and overseas.
Over the last year, B&W Tek provided travel grants to the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery to support early-career scientists and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education scholarship for undergraduate participation at the annual SciX convention. Employees also volunteered their time at American Chemical Society’s National Chemistry Week event held at The Independence School in Newark, DE and at Highlands Elementary Science Expo in Wilmington, DE.
According to Daniel Rau, Marketing Manager at B&W Tek, it’s important for companies to help out in the community because it creates a positive bonding experience.
“Any occasion where a group of people get together to do something kind for others will bring them together,” Rau said. “To be able to say that we made a difference as a team helps us improve internally while also giving back to the community.”
This year, B&W Tek’s largest community service effort took place in September when Everett Samuel, Quality Control Technician, traveled to Kenya to build schools as part of the Global Angels Foundation. Employees helped prepare for the trip by pitching in with personal donations. Altogether, the company raised $1,100, which was used to donate 150 solar lights to the children in need.
Over the holiday season, B&W Tek also hosted a food drive for the Food Bank of Delaware. Employees were encouraged to make a difference by donating canned and nonperishable goods. For every item brought in by an employee, the company matched the donation. Their final weight of 580lbs beat their previous year’s donation by over 200lbs.
“Any company is only as strong as the community around them, so it’s only logical to give back wherever we can,” Rau said.
