ALS Environmental can provide analytical testing for Bacteriophage (Coliphage) in water. Bacteriophages are a common group of viruses, which are infectious particles and are capable of infecting and replicating within living cells and organisms.
Pervinder Johal (Microbiology Manager) explains: 'Our laboratory in Coventry can now provide Bacteriophage analysis adding to our existing portfolio of microbiological testing of water. Bacteriophage analysis can be used as an indicator for the presence of other pathogenic viruses present in potable and bathing waters.'
Rio de Janeiro`s Olympic organizing committee ruled out conducting viral tests of the human sewage-laden waterways where the 2016 Games` aquatic events will be held, following recommendations from the World Health Organization, a Rio 2016 spokesman said Friday.
Speaking at a news conference, Mario Andrada said he considered the WHO`s recommendation to be the "final instructions for Rio 2016" - suggesting an end to the months of flip-flopping on the issue.
The question of whether to conduct viral testing has...
LONDON - New biological decontamination technology for homeland security is reviewed in a webinar on July 8th 2010 at 16:00 hours BST (London), 11:00 EDT (New York). The on-line event explains how enclosed spaces – from homes and offices, to laboratories and public buildings - can now be protected in minutes from airborne and surface pathogenic viruses and bacteria.
Registration for the CBRN event is free. It is organised by Tri-Air Developments, co-founded by the UK"s BRE (Building Research Establishment),...
Charm Sciences, Inc. announces the launch of Fast Phage, a quick, simple and cost-effective way to screen for coliphage in water. Fast Phage provides positive prediction within 8 hours and coliphage plaque confirmation at 16 hours – enabling a same-day public health response to contaminated drinking water. Coliphage are indicators of fecal contamination in ground water, similar to E. coli. While the presence of E. coli indicate that the water may contain potentially harmful bacteria, the presence of coliphage...
In many parts of the world, access to clean drinking water is far from certain. Filtration of large volumes of water, however, is slow and impractical. In the journal Angewandte Chemie, scientists have introduced a new water purification method based on magnetic nanoparticles coated with a so-called "ionic liquid" that simultaneously remove organic, inorganic, and microbial contaminants, as well as microplastics. The nanoparticles are then easily removed with magnets.

Earlier this year, a major hotel in Atlanta voluntarily closed its doors while an investigation into an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease among hotel guests took place. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), there were at least 11 lab-confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease and 55 probable cases of Legionnaires’ disease related to the outbreak.
As reported by DPH, Legionella bacteria are found naturally in the environment, usually in fresh water. The bacteria grow best...
