In the winter of 2013, the coastal plains of Somerset were hit by severe flooding. This natural disaster gave rise to a revision of the flood relief program and the Environment Agency in the United Kingdom has been working hard to prevent any repeats.
As part of the new flood relief program it was decided to tender for new framework suppliers. The bid entered by BBA Pumps was successful and BBA Pumps supplied the Environment Agency with three high volume flood relief pumps.
After the units were supplied, a training session was scheduled to allow operator familiarization and to demonstrate the units to the engineers at the Environment Agency. One of the pumps was installed at the North Drain Pumping Station between the towns of Burtle and Westham, close to where the legendary Glastonbury festival is held every year.
After a quick walk around the units, the pre-start routine was explained to the Environment Agency staff, after which the units were started for a demo run. As can be seen in the pictures and short movie shared by the Environment Agency on social media, the pump completed a successful test run and proved its value to all present.
