BD - Canada headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario achieves LEED gold certification for environmentally responsible design, construction and operations

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a leading global medical technology company, today announced that its new BD - Canada corporate office in Mississauga received Gold Certification from the Canada Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System. BD's office in Mississauga is the Company's first of four LEED-certified locations to achieve LEED Gold. LEED certification is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to work.

'We are pleased that the BD - Canada office achieved this designation and became the first BD facility to be LEED Gold Certified,' said Mike Oliver, Country General Manager, BD - Canada. 'This recognition affirms our corporate commitment to sustainability as well as our goal of becoming the most environmentally responsible company in the medical technology industry.'

BD earned LEED Gold certification in the Commercial Interiors category for its 70,000-square-foot offices, which are located within a building that has achieved LEED Gold for Core and Shell categories. The space is projected to use 30% less energy and 30% less water than a comparable space that does not utilize the environmental strategies implemented in the BD - Canada office. BD achieved points to qualify for LEED Gold Certification through recycling of construction materials, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, ergonomics and green housekeeping. The building also earned points for reducing water through automatic restrooms; storing and collecting recyclables; and using low-emitting materials such as paints and carpeting.

'BD strongly believes in balancing the triple bottom line of achieving strong economic performance, promoting environmental stewardship and advancing social responsibility,' said Glenn Barbi, Vice President, BD Office of Global Sustainability. 'This LEED Gold certification is another step toward our goal of reducing the environmental impact of BD's overall building imprint.'

An additional 11 BD locations worldwide are currently pending LEED certification. To learn more about BD's commitment to environmental stewardship and to access BD's 2009 Sustainability Report, please visit www.bd.com/sustainability.
