The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about important environmental, health & safety (EH&S) issues.

Phoenix, AZ, July 7th, 2013 -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate people about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses exposure risks to benzene in the home and at work.

Benzene is a widely used chemical in the United States and it ranks in the top 20 for production volume. Some industries use benzene to make other chemicals which are used to make plastics, resins, and nylon and other synthetic fibers. Benzene is also used to make some types of rubbers, lubricants, dyes, detergents, drugs and pesticides. Natural sources of benzene include emissions from volcanoes and forest fires. Benzene is also a component of crude oil, gasoline and cigarette smoke.

Breathing extreme levels of benzene can result in death, while high levels can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heart rate, headaches, tremors, confusion and unconsciousness,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “Exposure to benzene through foods or beverages can result in vomiting, irritation of the stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, rapid heart rate and even death.  Long-term exposure impacts the blood, causing harmful effects on the bone marrow and can result in a decrease in red blood cells.  We hope this new video helps to educate people about exposure risks to benzene”
