ANCHORAGE, AK -- (Marketwire) -- 06/29/11 -- The Berry Company (www.berrymeansbusiness.com), publisher of the Alaska Communications Systems (ACS) Yellow Pages, is hosting three collection events in Anchorage as part of its annual directory recycling program. The events will take place from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the following locations:
- Carrs Huffman on July 1 - 1501 Huffman
- Carrs Sears Mall on July 8 - 600 E Northern Lights
- Aurora Village on July 15 - 1650 W Northern Lights
Anchorage residents who bring outdated directories to the events for recycling will be eligible to win prizes, including merchandise and gift cards. Volunteers from Berry and local non-profit, Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR), will be on site at the Berry/ACS 'Moose Mobile' collecting books and handing out prizes. Additionally, Berry's 'Moose on the Loose' will be distributing information about recycling.
'Berry's directory recycling campaign is part of our annual Think Yellow, Go Green environmental sustainability initiative. We are delighted to partner with ACS, ALPAR and the Anchorage community to encourage recycling efforts. Our objective is to collect 24 tons of outdated directories as a result of our efforts in Anchorage,' said Ray Carulli, regional director of The Berry Company in Anchorage.
The recycling campaign overlaps with the delivery of the new ACS directories for Anchorage, which include up-to-date listings and advertising along with coupons for popular business categories. Delivery continues through August 3. Anchorage residents can request a new directory by calling (907) 338-4018.

Alaska Waste is supporting the program by providing recycling containers and hauling services. The recycled telephone directories from the Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program will be converted into material such as home insulation and mulch.
