Bio-Microbics Receives 2015 Ingenuity Award from K-State Olathe for its Wastewater Treatment Systems

K-State Olathe planned its inaugural Ingenuity Central (IC) Event showcasing the top 22 most innovative companies in the region. Bio-Microbics showcased on the Future and Value of Water.

Designed as a hub for cross-pollination of leading-edge ideas between Kansas City’s businesses, the inaugural Ingenuity Central will highlight the innovations of 22 diverse companies. The event, scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, will convene executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and local and state leaders to network and exchange ideas. Ingenuity Central was developed and will be hosted by the Kansas State University Olathe Innovation Campus at 22201 W. Innovation Drive (off College Boulevard) in Olathe, Kansas, and is planned as an annual event.

As a business-centric campus of Kansas State University, K-State Olathe is launching Ingenuity Central to showcase 22 of the most innovative companies in our region and to accelerate the exchange of ideas across sectors, facilitating continued innovation and business growth.

“Stronger connections between business, education, entrepreneurs, government and community are key ingredients for an innovation ecosystem,” said Dr. Prema Arasu, CEO of K-State Olathe Innovation Campus. “Ingenuity Central creates a unique environment for representatives of these groups to leverage cross-industry concepts, to stimulate relationships and promote further innovation and business growth. As a campus committed to regional needs, we want to facilitate collaborations on new business ideas and new product concepts as a result of this event.”


From a group of 200+ companies recommended by Kansas City-area leaders, 22 firms were selected as 2015 Ingenuity Award winners for diversity, innovation and inventiveness in their technology, product or processes.  The 2015 Ingenuity Central award winners, who will exhibit their products and services at the K-State Olathe Ingenuity Central, are:

Ingenuity Central will connect private-sector interests to education, government and the community through other highlights, including experts talking about cyber security, urban prosperity and a panel discussion on “What’s Keeping Greater Kansas City from Being the Silicon Valley of the Midwest?”

Attendees will take part in interactive demonstrations and learn from other industries with the goal of sparking ideas that will grow new business in the greater Kansas City region. A few examples of our winners’ exhibits include:

  • Black & Veatch: Participants will learn about future smart city and smart utility systems
  • Bio-Microbics: Demonstrating how future wastewater will be recycled to drinkable water
  • EyeVerify: Attendees can take an “eyeprint” to learn how EyeVerify provides secure, password-free mobile device user authentication
  • SCD Probiotics: Offering taste tests of Yuyobi and Yuyobi Ginger, food and beverage additives made from six live probiotic strains for health. Participants can also try a smoothie or juice drink with a sampling of SCD Essential Probiotics, a health supplement comprised of 11 live probiotic strains
  • SmartVet: Attendees can try out the SmartVet VetGun onto a cow pelt.

In addition to corporate exhibits, Ingenuity Central will showcase highlights of innovative K-State research, from new ways to fight cancer to unmanned aerial systems.

Ingenuity Central is designed to be a hub for cross-pollination of leading-edge ideas between regional businesses in greater Kansas City. Executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and local and state leaders will be able to share ideas, leveraging cross-industry concepts and generate new innovations.
