Biogenie provides a tax-free recovery solution with a new soil treatment facility in the Midlands

THEALE, 6 NOVEMBER 2012 -- Biogenie Site Remediation Ltd ('Biogenie'), a subsidiary of the EnGlobe Corp. ('EnGlobe') and specialists in the treatment of contaminated soils, along with their strategic partner Biffa Group Ltd ('Biffa'), are delighted to welcome guests to their new soil treatment facility located in the Midlands region.

Biogenie now has a solution for customers to dispose of their contaminated materials in the Midlands, rather than pay the costly £64 per tonne standard landfill tax charge. Already in the first week of opening over 1,000 tonnes of soil were received. Andrew Clee, the Site Manager of new facility in Meece comments;' Leading up to the opening of the facility it has been an extremely busy time but with an enthusiastic and dedicated team we were able to open the facility in October 2012'.

The new facility is permitted to accept a wide range of soils, sludges and other industrial wastes allowing complete recovery and therefore avoiding the need to pay the increasing levels of landfill tax. The Meece facility is strategically located in the Midlands and complements the coverage provided by their other operating sites in the North West and South East. Biogenie and Biffa facilities have been present in the UK since 2005 and the team has observed significant increases in soils being sent for recovery rather than landfill disposal in the last two years due to the loss of landfill tax exemptions for contaminated soils. With ongoing pressure on costs in the construction industry, these facilities offer a compliant and cheaper alternative to landfill and have been universally welcomed by customers in the construction and waste sectors.

Jon Owens, Soil Treatment Facilities Director of Biogenie comments: 'We have been overwhelmed by the number of enquiries we have been receiving both in Meece and at the newly extended site in Redhill. A priority on compliance means that customers are able to send soils to Biogenie facilities with the peace of mind that they are discharging their duty of care responsibilities with a compliant and fully traceable service. It is extremely pleasing to have had such positive feedback from customers and regulators on the degree of traceability offered at the treatment facilities. With further developments in the planning it is encouraging to see the increase in demand for this service'.
'It is a pleasure to meet so many of our existing and potential new customers at these open days and to hear that our commitment to providing them with a complete range of soil disposal services across the UK is just what the industry is looking for. We look forward to announcing more new facilities across Europe in due course' concludes Andre Heroux, President and CEO of EnGlobe.
