NEW YORK, March 28, 2012 /PR Newswire/ -- Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB/QB: BNET) announced today the submittal of a permit application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) to support the conversion of its existing 'demonstration' Water Quality Management Permit (WQMP) to a 'permanent' status. Bion submitted data that demonstrates the Bion bioreactor is converting ammonia nitrogen into nitrogen gas (as well as other demonstrations). The data also demonstrates Bion's ability to measure and verify nitrogen into and out of the system.
This WQMP application submittal was comprised of data collected over the period from September 27, 2011 through February 26, 2012, which comprises much the same data cited by Bion in its December 19, 2011 press release (http://biontech.com/news/docs/Bion.PR.111219.KF%20Sampling.pdf), citing, 'verified nitrogen reductions in the range of 220 lbs per milk cow, which would result in approximately 115 lbs of verified nitrogen credits under the Chesapeake Bay TMDL (based upon Bion's existing Edge-of-Segment (EOS) factor and verification plan filed with PA DEP). The results are consistent with Bion's original projections of 105-120 lbs of verified nitrogen credits.'
PA DEP issuance of the permanent WQMP will enable Bion to sell verified credits into the marketplace upon final PA DEP review and approval of the nutrient credit verification plan and measurement data. Conclusion of this process will also enable Bion to advance its real time online computerized monitoring system to include a credit calculation projection.
Further, and perhaps of most importance, the approved nutrient credit verification plan is a critical building block that could then be utilized in support of the Interstate Trading Proposal Bion has proposed to the Chesapeake Bay states and U.S. EPA. Bion has proposed that credits generated by a verification plan approved by both a state trading program and EPA be the basis for interstate trading.
