Black & Veatch professional appointed to Hong Kong commission on strategic development

Appointment Will Help to Shape Future Direction and Strategy for Hong Kong

Hong Kong (July 10, 2007) – Ping-Kuen Lee, an Associate Director of Black & Veatch’s global water business in Hong Kong, has been appointed by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, to a position with the Commission on Strategic Development.
Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, has been active in the Hong Kong water market since 1930. Lee will hold his position as a non-official member for a period of two years with effect from 1 July 2007.
The main objective of the Commission is to advise the Chief Executive on Hong Kong’s long-term development needs and goals with particular reference to the direction and strategy of social, economic and political developments for Hong Kong. Last year Lee was appointed as a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit (CPU) of the Hong Kong SAR, a position he served until December 2006.
“This appointment gives Ping-Kuen the opportunity to take the policy and research that he is doing with the CPU to the next stage,” said Alan Man, Client Services Director for the Black & Veatch water business in Hong Kong and the North Asia Region. “It’s an honor to have a Black & Veatch professional appointed to this Commission, which represents a broad cross section of the community and offers the opportunity to help shape the future strategy and direction of Hong Kong.”

Lee joined Black & Veatch in 1984 after graduating with an engineering degree from Hong Kong Polytechnic. He earned his master’s of science in Engineering in 1995 from the University of Hong Kong
He has been a project manager for various regional projects, including Drainage Improvement in East Kowloon; Northern New Territories Drainage Improvement Package C;Yuen Long and Kam Tin Sewerage; Restructuring and Improvement of Staunton Creek Nullah and Fuk Man Road Nullah; Tin Sui Wai Development; Ping Ha Road Improvement; Yuen Long Development; and Widening of Tolo and Fanling Highway.
