Bollegraaf Recycling Machinery has built for Greenstar the largest co-mingled material recycling facility of the UK in Aldridge. The plant  has been fully operational since April 2008. After the facility for Cardiff County Council, this is the second large facility Bollegraaf has completed in 1.5 year.

Since the government of England “buckled” down to the European legislation of waste handling, the growth of recycling plants in England got a lift. Co-mingled collection of recyclables is an effective and environmental friendly way to recycle. It saves transport and energy costs and due to the unique technology and equipment of Bollegraaf Recycling Machinery the purity rate of the recyclables are in excess of 96%. The project is able to handle 250,000 tonnes per annum. The plant processes both mixed and sorted dry recyclables, including all forms of paper and cardboard, plastic and glass bottles, steel and aluminium cans and wood.

Unique for the Greenstar project is the large capacity this installation can handle. Thereby the recovery of the paper is exceptionally clean. Consequently the return of investment for Greenstar is higher. The cleanness of the paper is due to the Starscreens™ of Lubo Systems. These Starscreens™ are used instead of a drum/ rotoscreens. Through this system the paper will not be mixed up with the other recycables as it is with a drum / rotoscreen. The manual work in this plant is reduced to a minimum, which saves a lot of running costs.   

With the head office in Appingedam, the Netherlands, the Bollegraaf Holding has many years of experience in building large recycling facilities. Bollegraaf Recycling Machinery completed, at the beginning of 2007, a material recycling facility for Cardiff County Council at their Lamby Way site. This recycling facility can be compared to the current project, with an ability to handle 60,000 tonnes per annum of co-mingled, mixed and dry recyclable materials. Next to the quality technology and equipment used for this facility, it is also rewarded as one of the safest plants in the UK by the Health and Safety department.

The delivery of such sophisticated and safe solutions for recyclables materials takes place worldwide via our network of own Sales and Service offices and Sales agents. Here Van Dyk Baler Corporation and therefore the Bollegraaf Holding has been market leader in material recycling facilities for over 20 years, with very large co-mingled plants all over the USA and Canada. The design of the recycling facility that are implemented in the UK are based on the recycling systems in the USA and Canada. At this moment the Bollegraaf Holding is constructing an unique plant for Vista Fibres in the USA. This installation will handle 50 ton recyclables per hour, thereby the recyclables are recovered twice to increase the purity even more. Due to the automative technology in the installation manual intervention is greatly reduced.

The quality product range of Bollegraaf Recycling Machinery and Lubo Systems has been expanded enormously over the years. We manufacture and sell complete solutions that are developed in-house, for example complete sorting installations etc. These are perfect for processing wastepaper and a most diverse range of industrial, construction & demolition and domestic waste. We also supply balers, conveyor belts, sorting belts, magnetic and pneumatic sorting systems, drums and Starscreens™ for sorting and recycling installations.

Due to this expansion, Bollegraaf Recycling Machinery has decided to drastically mechanise and automate the entire production process for sorting systems and balers in a new production hall in Appingedam. At this moment we are in the middle of the construction of this new hall. An automatic production process using plasma cutting machines and welding robots will be installed. This is unique in the world for a manufacturing company making machines for the recycling industry. The goal of the expansion is to reduce the amount of time taken to run through the production process so the capacity can be increased, without delivery times becoming longer. 

Instead of sourcing out these activities to various companies worldwide, Bollegraaf Holding wants to keep the production in house, to guarantee the quality of the equipment.
