BrownFlynn participates in two landmark events in the sustainability arena

In ongoing efforts to strengthen its commitment to corporate responsibility and sustainability, BrownFlynn recently participated in two very important conferences. First, Principal and Co-owner Barb Brown shared her expertise of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the most recognized framework for sustainability reporting, at an utilities benchmarking forum in Chattanooga, TN. Hosted by Tennessee Valley Authority, this groundbreaking conference featured many prominent players in the utilities sector willing to assess their environmental and sustainability footprint, as well as share best practices in sustainability to stimulate industry environmental improvement. Participants included American Electric Power, Duke Energy, Exelon and Southern Company. Other presenters included Symbiotic Engineering, Shaw Industries and Navigant Consulting. From there Brown and Beth Meany, Director of Learning of BrownFlynn's training division, traveled to New York to participate in the first-ever Smartview(TM) Roundtable discussion highlighting sustainable investing. Located at the NASDAQ Marketsite, the event was hosted by CRD Analytics and featured special guests from the Global Reporting Initiative. Timing for this event could not be better. The recent SEC ruling on interpretive guidance for climate-change related risk disclosure and its impact on public companies proves that the regulatory, investment and corporate communities’ landscape is rapidly changing. As a high-level sponsor of the conference, BrownFlynn hopes the NASDAQ event highlighted the growing importance of the GRI framework in the U.S. corporate arena. The event ended with BrownFlynn's participation in the closing bell ceremony (see attached photos). 'As a corporate responsibility and sustainability consulting firm, we were thrilled to participate in this groundbreaking event at NASDAQ,' stated Brown. 'The event reinforced the critical importance and relevance of environmental, social and governance transparency and reporting to the capital market system.'
