During late 2006 the county council began the process of tendering the contract to design, build and finance an in-vessel composting facility in north of the county. This facility would have processed material from Aylesbury Vale District Council’s cardboard, food and garden waste.
Buckinghamshire County Council councillor Martin Tett said: “After duly considering all the facts, we have decided to end the current tendering process to build a new in-vessel composting facility in the north of the county. This has been extremely disappointing and difficult decision to make, due to a number of factors, most critical being the current economical conditions.
“We have kept the bidders and our colleagues at Aylesbury Vale District Council informed of this very difficult decision, who understand the reasons why this action has had to be taken. We will continue to work with the district council to explore future options with regards to rolling out these collection services.”
