SACRAMENTO --The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is releasing draft documents for implementation of the California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring (CASGEM) program. Enacted in 2009 with the passage of Senate Bill X7 6, CASGEM establishes a basis for collaboration between local monitoring parties and DWR to collect groundwater elevation information statewide and make that information available to the public. DWR is now in the process of launching the program. The legislation does not call for mandatory groundwater regulation, It is a voluntary program.

Comments on the draft guidelines will be accepted until November 22, 2010, and can be submitted to GWElev-Support@water.ca.gov DWR has created a home page for the CASGEM program, where interested parties can find additional information on CASGEM, and stay current with program developments. A web mailing list has also been created to provide subscribers with periodic e-mail messages notifying them of important news and announcements related to CASGEM, updates to the web site, and availability of documents released on the web site.
