CARBON EXPO—Where a market of over One Billion Tons of CO2 comes together: Exchange, Learn and Do Business
The fourth CARBON EXPO—The leading global trade fair and conference for emissions trading and carbon abatement solutions to take place from 2-4 May 2007, Cologne, Germany
The greenhouse gas (GHG) market has shown tremendous growth over the last two years and has now reached 22 billion dollars, according to the last World Bank/IETA October 2006 report.
Through the establishment of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), a price on the emission of a ton of CO2 in Europe and globally was set, which represents a historical change.
There has also been extraordinary growth in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) market, which is addressing sustainable development issues in the developing world. The project-based carbon market is now expected to represent transactions of 700 million tons of CO2 cumulatively for 2005 and 2006. Neglected issues such as waste management in developing world cities are now being addressed through the CDM.
For all these topics and issues, CARBON EXPO 2007—The Global Carbon Market Trade Fair & Conference taking place in Cologne, Germany, May 2 - 4, 2007, will be an important international venue for discussion, information and trading. It is jointly organized by the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the World Bank and Koelnmesse.
Now in its fourth year, this international event will again be the premier meeting place for companies from all over the world doing business in the carbon market. This trade fair represents a unique opportunity for companies dealing in the GHG market and offers a platform for high-profile participants and exhibitors. Alongside the trade fair, a conference is organized where the world’s leading carbon trade practitioners provide information and share the latest developments on carbon trading, such as the EU ETS, CDM and Joint Implementation (JI), as well as other trading schemes. CARBON EXPO is the biggest non-UN event for the rapidly growing GHG market.
CARBON EXPO 2006 closed with outstanding results. 185 exhibitors from 50 countries and over 2,000 participants from 94 countries attended the Global Trade Fair and Conference. In total, 25 host countries sold emission reductions and displayed approval processes and 140 experts presented the latest market developments, in seven plenary sessions and 12 workshops. The event also benefited from extensive media coverage, with over 159 journalists present from 61 national and international news operations.
CARBON EXPO 2007 promises to surpass last year’s event. Gold and Platinum Presentation Packages are already sold out. Exhibitors from different sectors such as finance, industry, project developers and technology providers will be at the trade fair. Among many others, the European Carbon Fund, Fortis, RWE Power, Natsource, Statoil or Tradition Financial Services have already signed up.
Following three years of great success in Cologne, the partners of CARBON EXPO organized the first CARBON EXPO ASIA, which took place on 26-27 October 2006 in Beijing, China. In a joint statement they said: “CARBON EXPO ASIA is a milestone for the carbon market in the growing Asian marketplace. It has succeeded in bringing together all projects, services, initiatives, and development involving the Asian Carbon Market under one roof. Key players from around the region were able to network with the movers and shakers in the global market, some for the first time.” In total, 1,100 participants from 44 countries, including 91 media representatives attended the event.
