CARES Airport Program Flies Relief to US Airports
The Covid-19 pandemic is having devastating effects on human life, mental well-being, and the global economy. Late last month, the United States Congress took a stand, passing bi-partisan legislation in the form of the CARES Act. This sweeping $2 trillion relief package includes welcomed relief for the airline industries that have been ravaged by the decreased travel due to the virus. Much of the CARES money is coming in the form of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Stability Airport Program geared toward airports themselves.
What’s in the Stimulus Package?
The CARES Airport Program includes a whopping $10 billion, yes – that’s billion with a “b”, toward commercial and general aviation airports across the United States.
One thing that is important to note is that with the new legislation, the US Government will burden 100% of funding for the Airport Improvement Program. In the past, Airport Improvement grant winners were required to provide a matching contribution of the the airport improvement costs.
Here are three other important “take-aways” from the CARES Airport Program all airport executives should know:
- Of the $10 billion earmarked for airports, $7.4 billion can be used for just about anything airports want to use it for.
- An additional $2 billion has been slated for Airport Improvement Programs, which funds specific airport projects.
- The CARES funds will be issued from the general fund, rather than from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund.
What does this Mean for Your Airport?
It means that airports, big or small, commercial, or general, can complete much needed projects and their ever changing to-do lists! Many of these projects include improving the customer experience. They will also undoubtedly include innovative ways to provide more sanitary ways to mitigate trash in public areas.
As a premier supplier of waste and recycling equipment to airports and airline associated companies, Harmony Enterprises stands ready to serve you with completing these important projects.
Our SmartPack Automatic Compactor is one of the most widely used compactors by airports to help them achieve their goals. SmartPack not only has an industry leading 11:1 compaction ratio, it is also equipped with a “no touch” automatic door that allows users to deposit trash without coming into contact with the loading door. It also comes with a portable wheeled waste cube that custodial staff can change out and easily wheel to a secure location to dispose of the waste bag. The additional benefit of saving up to 70% on waste handling comes with pairing our SmartPack with our Insite Technology which sends alerts on when the compactors need to be emptied or serviced.
SmartPacks are not the only product used by airports across the country. Several airline catering services utilize our ExtractPack Vertical Liquid Extraction Baler to help them dispose of unused beverage product, while baling aluminum for recycling.
Harmony also partners with airlines of all sizes to help them with recycling aluminum, cardboard, and other products using a number of our long lasting vertical balers, as well as waste management using a variety of our commercial compactors.
