Clemenceau docks in teesside to be scrapped

Source: Materials Recycling Week

The largest ship to be recycled in Europe has arrived at a Teesside dock for processing after being delayed by poor weather last week. French aircraft carrier, the Clemenceau, docked at Able UK’s Teesside Environmental Reclamation and Recycling Centre on Sunday.

The same company is contracted to recycle four US “ghost ships”, which attracted some local opposition. However, Hartlepool Council’s objections to extend the licence enabling TERRC to process such ships were withdrawn in 2007.

Steel from the French ship will provide much needed scrap supplies to the surrounding region as well as creating 200 jobs.
