The first food waste digestion plant in France was completed in April 2010. entec biogas gmbh had got the commission for the design, as well as general contractor for mechanical and electrical engineering and commissioning of the biogas plant. Right now, the biogas plant is under commissioning and is expected to be on full capacity in September 2010. The biogas plant in Benet treats waste from the food and animal feed industry.

Europe works right now on bio waste regulations which should lead to a separation of municipal solid waste with subsequent material utilization. Most of the EU-members support this goal; with the exception of France because presently their focus is on the production of compost produced from not-separated municipal solid waste.

We would like to express our sincerest thanks to M. Philippe Spannagel (Director of SIFDDA Centre, Benet) and his staff, as well as all to the involved SARIA-team under the direction of Dr. Eberhard Schmidt for the outstanding cooperation.
