Windward is proud to announce the successful conclusion of this project, which mitigated the unavoidable impacts of the Sound Transit Federal Way Transit Center/Parking Structure and HOV Direct Access Ramp on nearby wetlands. Over the past decade, Windward was able to both restore and enhance local fish and wildlife habitat. We created and improved salmon spawning and rearing habitats, fashioned additional wetland areas, enhanced the functions of the existing wetlands, and restored native plant communities. This year saw the final monitoring for the enhancements, which are now well established and thriving.
December 2009: At the beginning of the planting phase, the impacts of recent construction were stark and severe.
April 2019: After 10 years of careful monitoring and cultivation, the site is healthy and capable of providing habitat for spawning salmon.
