Drilling Muds
Drilling mud, also known as drilling fluid, is a vital component of the drilling process. It helps in the process of drilling boreholes into the earth where holes are required for extraction of oil and gas, core sampling and various other purposes. It is broadly of three types, including water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based. Among all of these, synthetic-based muds are most frequently used as they have low environmental impact and are faster to biodegrade as compared to water-based and oil-based fluids.
