Eaton Helps Oil and Gas Customers Enhance Safety and Reduce Unplanned Downtime in Offshore Applications
PITTSBURGH -- Power management company Eaton is helping upstream oil and gas customers reduce the impact of electrical failures in complex, offshore applications. Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services and Systems division, one of the largest field service organizations in the industry, helps customers address electrical system failures and optimize safety, performance and profitability. Eaton will showcase these services at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston from May 5-8, in Eaton booth #2951
“Electrical equipment failures in offshore applications can be difficult to address quickly, resulting in significant downtime, costs and production loss,” said Bob Kirslis, industrial segment manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton. “Our global network of experienced professionals offers customers the expertise and customized solutions they need to maximize operational predictability and prevent future outages.”
Offshore electrical problems may occur in the surface variable speed drives feeding the electric submersible pump (ESP) motor, or at the motors themselves, which can be located thousands of feet deep within a well. Eaton power quality studies and forensic analysis services can help identify potential problem areas before they become issues. Eaton also helps develop solutions for specific motor and control configurations at existing wells – addressing power system issues with high-resistance grounding and sine wave filters.
To help customers better manage the transient over voltages that result from arcing ground faults, Eaton’s customized solutions are engineered to filter out harmonics that can cause thermal degradation of the motor, pulsing torques and electrically induced bearing failures. This approach provides a cost-effective solution to a potentially expensive problem, while dramatically enhancing equipment reliability and personnel safety by increasing protection against harmful arc events.
