Gee & Company (Effluent Control & Recovery) Limited

Gee acquires Michael Smith systems division

Birmingham-based Gee & Company has acquired the systems divisions of Michael Smith Engineers Ltd. in a deal that embraces patented packaged chemical dosing plant, including the KTB design.

Gee is a specialist designer and builder of chemical dosing plant for the treatment of water, wastewater and industrial effluents whilst Michael Smith’s systems division is active in related markets, particularly that of septicity control for effluent treatment.

Highlighting the mutual benefits to both organisations of the transfer of business, Rob Lissner, Gee’s co-founder, explains, “For thirty years, Gee has traditionally had a strong presence in systems engineering so this acquisition now gives us an even wider scope of delivery and greater potential”, he says. “I stress that Michael Smith Engineers and ourselves have worked closely and amicably together to ensure a seamless transfer of operations”, he adds.

This view is endorsed by Adrian Turner, Michael Smith’s Director of Sales, who explains, “the transfer of this part of our business to Gee has been carried out in a carefully managed way that will allow Gee to add to its systems capability, whilst we are enabled to concentrate on our core business activity, the distribution of specialist pumps. The nature of the deal is such that we will continue to enjoy a close working relationship with Gee & Company”, he concludes.

All employees of the division have moved to Gee, including Adrian Dawson, who becomes product manager for Michael Smith Systems. Although the engineering and marketing of systems will be moved to Gee’s Birmingham headquarters, both names will continue to trade independently.

Craig Bennett, newly-appointed business development manager for the Michael Smith Systems division of Gee, comments, ”Michael Smith is a long-established business that we have respected for many years. The integration of their systems division gives us great combined product strength, especially in the packaged plant area. In particular, the patented integral dosing systems provide all the features of a complete water treatment system housed in a secure, transportable unit”.
