In India, only 45% of rural households use electricity. Even in electrified villages, supply is inadequate and unreliable but there is now an increased demand for power and exhaustible fossil fuels. The government has set itself ambitious targets, including commissioning 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by the year 2022.
