Groundwater evaluation platform
SuperGeo Technologies has developed a data platform for groundwater recharge areas in order to evaluate the recharge potential. The platform is able to assist researchers in delimiting groundwater recharge areas and also in determining parameters such as recharge rate, pumping rate, flow rate and recharge potential.
Water resource protection is one of the most important policies in Taiwan. Groundwater protection, in particular, is essential. Since 1991, the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan has studied the hydrogeology of nine groundwater areas and established several groundwater investigation wells. The Ministry has also acquired hydrogeology data and created a hydrogeology database, monitoring system and core repository, enabling researchers to study many natural groundwater recharge areas.
However, it is difficult to improve the delimiting accuracy of the groundwater recharge area and evaluate recharge quantity. Analysis of the groundwater hydrograph combined with GIS technologies is therefore needed to create a groundwater recharge potential evaluation platform.
The aim of the project is to create a complete database for each groundwater recharge area by evaluating groundwater recharge potential and creating a groundwater mode. Applying SuperGIS Desktop, plus SuperGIS Spatial Analyst and SuperGIS Spatial Statistical Analyst extensions, Groundwater Recharge Potential Evaluation Platform is the tool developed with Microsoft Access database and VB programming language.
The platform employs kriging and linear interpolation to map and visualise the point data so that the recharge capability of each location can be presented clearly. Researchers can therefore rapidly recognise the recharge potential difference at various locations.
