A hallmark of InfoWorks ICM is its dynamic integration of one-dimensional (1D) hydrodynamic simulation of flows in rivers, open channels and pipe networks and two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic simulation of surface flooding in the urban environment and river floodplain. The combination, achieved through a coupling of 1D and 2D flow equations, provides a powerful solution for simultaneously modeling belowground and aboveground elements of catchments to accurately represent all flow paths and improve understanding of processes occurring in the holistic environment. The software also takes interactions of natural and man-made environments into account, and effectively simulates the impact of polluting runoff and effluent from urban areas on water quality.
InfoWorks ICM V5.0 once again extends the software’s advanced simulation capabilities with the addition of sediment transport modeling, an important new feature that allows for the calculation of potential fluvial geomorphological changes. It enables engineers to assess the impact of proposed changes and devise mitigation against any unwelcome sediment erosion or deposition within a catchment. The latest version also includes a selection of new runoff models, further expanding the international reach of InfoWorks ICM. Runoff surfaces and subcatchments have also been updated in order to support the new UKWIR model for use within the United Kingdom, and f1-Rsa, Kadoya, Non-linear and Rational options have been added to support hydrological methodologies used in Japan.
InfoWorks ICM V5.0 features more performance gains that extend the solution’s well-earned industry reputation for fast, reliable and robust modeling. Improvements to inline bank validation, preprocessing of network results objects, and runs using initial state simulations all contribute to efficiency gains that allow users to focus on engineering goals with minimal distraction.
The new version of InfoWorks ICM also features new enhancements to ICM TSDB, a solution that uses real-time data to provide accurate network performance and operational information. Telemetry data can now be acquired from Proficy Historian (previously known as iHistorian), developed by GE Intelligent Platforms (Charlottesville, VA) and ClearSCADA, developed by Schneider Electric (Rueil-Malmaison, France). A new Historic Mode allows users to recreate and reassess system scenarios from any previous time. With the added option of incorporating user edits to the data, utilities and river authorities are able to explore a range of different response decisions to identify system best practice.
