IRON Pump to Provide Pumps to Bahamas Power Plant
IRON Pump, a Danish company, is to provide pumps with motors from Hoyer Motors, to cool water for a new power plant in the Bahamas. They will deliver four CLVS vertical turbine pumps by the end of 2019.
The pumps, with a capacity of 2,000 m3/h – 41 mlc, will supply cooling water to the seven power plant motors. The cooling water for the new plant will be drawn from pockets of saltwater 20 meters below the island. The two-stage pumps are 20 meters in length and capable of withstanding the harsh environment of warm subterranean saltwater.
IRON Pump says that with the shafts 20 meters vertically in the ground, the pipes are very heavy and so the torque on the shaft is massive and calculations had to be made to avoid the risk of the pump buckling on start-up.
