JRC-IRMM releases a new certified reference material for arsenic species in rice
ERM-BC211 will support laboratories in providing accurate speciation measurements
JRC-IRMM has released a new certified reference material, ERM-BC211 (rice). The certified reference material was prepared from rice destined for human consumption and is certified for total arsenic, the sum of arsenite and arsenate and dimethylarsinic acid.
Rice is staple food in many countries in Europe and throughout the world. Arsenic and arsenic species can be of concern for human health if present at elevated levels. This certified reference material may assist food control laboratories to develop reliable testing methods and to control the quality of measurements for food safety.
This material is primarily intended to assess the performance of analytical methods for the analysis of arsenic and arsenic species in rice and for validation purposes (e.g. trueness estimation). The material has been processed and certified in accordance to ISO Guides 34 and 35. Details about material sampling, processing and certification are described in detail in the certification report, available together with the certificate in our online catalogue.
